Officials rules

Download and/or print the Rules

1. Entrants must follow all provincial-angling regulations. If a tournament official should find that an entrant was fishing in violation of these regulations, that team will be disqualified from the tournament.

2. Fishing hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Sat. July 5/08 and 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. July 6/08. Contestants will leave by a staggered start out of the Lac Du Bonnet town dock. Tournament boundaries are areas accessible by water North of the Town dock. You can pick up your official weigh-in forms and your Spotter at that time and location. Tournament Anglers should be at the Lac Du Bonnet town dock around 7:00 am. to pick up their Spotters and weigh sheets. NOTE! Spotters are not allowed to bring GPS units.

3. It is the responsibility of the entrants to make sure that their weigh-in sheet is turned into the officials by their Spotter, before 4:00 pm. Sat. and before 3:00 pm. Sun. There will be an official on the water, near the dock and one on the dock! Late arrivals will be penalized 1 lb. per minute, up to five minutes at which time they will loose their entire weight for that day. No weigh-in sheets will be accepted after that time.

4. Entrants will receive the weight of their 5 largest walleye/sauger for prizes. Fish cannot be retained or put in the live well! When a fish is caught, the fish will be placed in the weigh-in bag by the angler and the Spotter will weigh the fish. The Spotter will confirm the weight with the angler, write it on the weigh-in sheet, initial it and have the angler initial it. If there is a discrepancy in weight, the Spotter's decision is final. If either initial is not present, the fish will not be counted. (Make sure you and your Spotter initial them!) The Angler must release all fish immediately, after weighing! In the event of a tie, the highest weight for the 1st day will be awarded the higher prize.

5. Remember that this is a NO KILL tournament. Weigh sacks and weigh scales will be given to the Spotters on tournament day. If the tournament scales are broken or lost, then the officials may, at their option, certify another scale for use by the anglers. The anglers will return to the town dock to have the officials certify or replace the scale.

6. It is also mandatory that Anglers and Spotters must be in possession of a certified and presumably appropriately fitting life PFD's. These will be supplied by the boat Captain, and must be worn at anything over trolling speed. All boats must be at least 16' in length and have engine kill switches, which must also be used over trolling speed. All contestants must display their boat entry number on their motor. ( port side)

7. No cell phones except for emergencies and boats cannot touch each other or pass objects between boats during tournament hours.

8. Spotters will be drawn for boat placement prior to the tournament at the rules meeting on Friday July 4th at 7:00 pm. Anglers and Spotters must attend, as this is the 1st tournament of its kind and there will be questions! Placement for the 2nd day will be drawn also and the Spotters will be notified Saturday at the dinner. Tournament officials will have the right to change Spotters placements at their discretion.

9. The Spotters will not share any information learned from the previous team, ie: locations, presentations, baits etc. All anglers and Spotters are subject to a polygraph test if the officials deem it necessary.

10. The safety of the Spotter and the Co-Angler will be borne by the Captain of the boat. Please use common sense with reference to weather and water conditions. If dangerous conditions arise, a boat may go to shore until conditions improve. However, no fishing is allowed until back on the water.

11. Tournament organizers will endeavor to supply a Spotter for every boat, however if for any reason this cannot be done and something else cannot be worked out, the entrant will receive their entry fee back.

12. The intent of the tournament is to promote good angling practices and good sportsmanship. In the event of any disputes by tournament entrants, a final and binding decision will be made by the tournament judge(s) appointed. If you wish to put in protest, it must be done with-in 1 hour of the tournament closing time, and you will need to provide a $200 cash fee, which will be refunded, only if the judges decide the protest holds up.

13. All entrants must check in at the dock at the end of each day whether they weigh-in or not.

14. If a team wishes to drop out of the tournament, the place will be filled by the tournament officials and not by the choice of the team that drops out. The entry fee will be refunded only if notice is given in writing 2 weeks prior to the start of the tournament.

15. Upon entering the tournament, the tournament organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and prize donors waive all responsibility for any loss, theft, or damage to any personal property as well as for any injury or the accidental demise of any entrants or Spotters in the tournament.
